Jill McKenna
Jill McKenna
A multi-instrumentalist with a particular love of collaboration and improvisation, Jill McKenna finds herself inside jazz, folk and alternative sounds. Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, McKenna then lived in New York City studying jazz performance on the upright bass at the New School.
Born with a strong sense of rhythm, McKenna is often found playing alongside a variety of artists, including on NPR’s Tiny Desk with dodie, on the road with singer songwriters, recording for film scores, performing improvised music, or at your local square dance.
Always a cup of coffee in hand, McKenna finds as much joy in bringing other artists’ music to life as her own. She prioritizes showing up for the music first, and honouring the creative process.
McKenna is currently based out of Nelson, BC and is the founder of Marivon. She is a co-producer of Tiny Lights Festival and designer, builder and founder of the mobile music studio, Slightly Above Average. (coming soon!)
